Grandparent's Rights

The role of a grandparent in in a child's life is one that a child will always cherish and remember. Occasionally, a grandparent will not have as much contact with a grandchild as they truly would like so they contact a lawyer.

Grandparent's rights in Texas are very limited. Generally, an original suit for visitation filed by a grandparent can only be filed if where the grandparent's own child is some how not able to permit visits. For example, where the parent has passed away.

Even if a grandparent does meet this standard, the rights will be generally very limited and subject to whatever provisions a surviving parent wishes to impose.

There are often other possibilities for visitation for grandparents that are not covered by the grandparent's rights laws. It is important to seek the advice of an attorney so you know what your options are.
